Nearby Nature Reserves
Corton Woods (Across the road. OS Map Reference TM544969)
Containing a variety of mature and wild flowers, the woods are important for providing food and shelter for wildlife and insects throughout the year.
Gunton Warren (Next door, OS Map Reference TM546963)
One of the Lowestoft ‘gems’, another fragment of wonderful wildlife habitat right on the doorstep of the town. It is a fascinating and diverse place renowned amongst the local birding community as somewhere to find rare migrants such as icterine and yellow-browed warblers drawn to the shelter provided by scrubby patches of woodland.
Gunton Meadow (1 mile away, OS Map Reference TM539961)
Part of a small network of wildlife-rich habitats in north Lowestoft. The meadows are important for a variety of grassland species while the ponds support a large population of great crested newts.
Lound Lakes (4 miles away, OS Map Reference TG511007)
A wonderfully wildlife rich site containing a mosaic of habitats, including woodland, acid and lowland grassland, open water, rush pasture and fen meadow.
Carlton Marshes (5 miles away, OS Map Reference TM508920)
With the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s investment of over £4 million in our vision for 1000 acres of wildness, the transformation of Carlton Marshes into the southern gateway to the Broads National Park is complete. As water flows back onto the land, nature is taking over once again.
